Improving life with multiple sclerosis through cell therapy

The use of stem cells of different types can have a comprehensive effect on patients. Reducing inflammation and acting on brain neurons improves health conditions.

How to stop multiple sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the body produces antibodies that damage the brain and spinal cord. The first symptoms of multiple sclerosis often go unnoticed, which is why the condition is so dangerous.
The treatment of multiple sclerosis in GOOD CELLS depends on the patient's condition.1. In the case of accumulation of foci, treatment will begin with suppressing these processes. Cellular therapy will be applied later. Preparation for stem cell therapy consists of intravenous infusion and intramuscular injection.2. If there is no exacerbation, cell therapy can be used at once.
We propose endolumbar administration of multipotent nerve crest-derived stem cells and umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (umbilical cord MSC) or adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells.
In some cases, the doctor may prescribe immunocompetent MSCs, i.e., cells treated with anti-inflammatory tumor necrosis factor.
Different cells will affect different mechanisms in patients with multiple sclerosis. MSCs improve the immune system by reducing autoimmune responses, and neural crest-derived stem cells provide neurotrophic processes that increase the patient's ability to adapt.

Cell therapy achieves the following effects: immunosuppression, reduced activity of autoimmune processes, regeneration, improved function of neurons still alive after injury, restoration of new neural connections, which provides regeneration and compensation of patients and improves their adaptation to the outside world.

Multiple sclerosis treatment program

Endolumbar administration of MSC-NCD is performed to regenerate and maintain intact brain neurons.
Intravenous infusion of MSCs from adipose tissue or umbilical cord helps suppress the immune response and reduce the aggressiveness of the immune system against your body.
Sometimes the doctor prescribes immunocompetent MSCs. These cells are pre-treated with anti-inflammatory tumor necrosis factor to reduce the activity of the immune system and improve the course of the disease.
About 70% of our patients improve their symptoms and reduce the frequency of exacerbations at least twice. Conclusions are made after a detailed analysis of MRI images and the frequency of exacerbations.

The treatment process

  • 1. Consultation with a manager

Contact our managers with no obligations on your side. At this step, we gather your medical information and confirm the diagnosis. After that, we'll arrange a free online or offline consultation with a doctor.

  • 2. Consultation with a doctor

A personal consultation with a doctor is an opportunity for you to find out all details of the program and get an individual prognosis. All the medical information you provide will be carefully reviewed so that you get the most effective treatment. The procedures take place in our clinic in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The course of the treatment is developed individually and lasts for 2 days and more.

  • 3. Checkup

During the checkup, the doctor assesses your readiness for cell therapy. If the assessment is positive, biological materials are taken. Depending on your doctor's recommendations, you may be prescribed your own* or donor stem cells.

    * If you are prescribed the treatment with your own cells, you will have an ear punch biopsy performed under anesthesia in an operating room. The procedure lasts for 15 minutes. The punch depth is up to 4 mm, and the diameter is up to 3 mm.

  • 4. Preparation of the stem cell product

OWN CELLSAfter the biomaterials are collected, our team of biotechnologists will prepare a therapeutic dose of stem cells. In our laboratory, we will select stem cells from your sample, grow the required number of cells, test them, then create a stem cell product for your treatment. Usually, the production takes up to 21 days.
DONOR CELLSAccording to the doctor's prescription, the biotechnologist will select a ready-made and pre-tested sample of donor cells from our cryobank in the required quantity. In this case, cell injection can happen immediately after diagnosis and drug preparation.
    CULTIVATION WITH CYTOKINES
The doctor may also prescribe the injection of cells processed by tumor necrosis factor. In this case, the cells are processed 5-7 days before the patient's visit, so it is necessary to plan your visit accordingly. Otherwise, the duration of treatment may increase by another 5-7 days.

  • 5. Start of treatment

You will have a consultation with a doctor, ultrasound, additional examinations, and tests during the first visit to the clinic.

Based on the diagnostic results, your doctor may prescribe drug therapy in the form of intravenous infusion and intramuscular injection. If there is no exacerbation of the disease, you can immediately go to Step 6, bypassing drug therapy.

  • 6. Injection of the cellular product, the regeneration phase

As part of treatment, the doctor may prescribe intravenous cell therapy and endolumbar administration of the cell product.

  • 7. Medical report and reducing of the basic treatment

You will be provided with a medical report that includes the diagnosis, the examination results (clinical, laboratory, and instrumental), the treatment process, and further recommendations. The doctor will examine you, prescribe the necessary treatment, or adjust the one prescribed to you.

  • 8. Keeping in touch

The first results can be observed in 2 weeks after cell therapy. You will see the improvement of the regenerative processes in the body in the third and sixth months after treatment.

Throughout the program, you will have a personal manager who will ensure the best communication between you and the clinic. After treatment, our patients are advised to maintain contact with us. We'll ask you to fill out a questionnaire in 3 and 6 months after the treatment to evaluate the progress and answer all questions.

Scientific reasoning

In published work on cell therapy in multiple sclerosis, MSCs of bone marrow, adipose tissue, umbilical cord, or neuronal precursors derived from MSCs were mainly used. Studies show that transplantation of cell material is well tolerated by patients and does not cause serious side effects. In some patients with multiple sclerosis, there was a significant improvement. In others — stabilization. MSC transplantation in patients with multiple sclerosis caused an immediate immunomodulatory effect, manifested in a decrease in proinflammatory cytokines and normalization of the ratio of subpopulations of immune system cells.

FAQ

  • Can I hope for a full recovery?

No, unfortunately. However, neural crest stem cells will stop nerve fiber damage, protect the neurons from death, and stimulate nerve fiber regeneration. In the best case, fiber recovery speed will restore lost skills and functionality (physical activity, etc.). In the worst case, the disease will not progress.

  • What are the symptoms of multiple sclerosis?

Symptoms of multiple sclerosis include weakness in the extremities, impaired sensitivity, speech, vision, vestibular apparatus, gait statics.

  • Is it true that there exists a medical treatment that can give a better effect than cell therapy?

It's true, but these drugs are not present in our clinic. The drug courses are much more expensive than cell therapy, but most of them guarantee stabilization of the patient's condition for only 5-7 years.

  • Is continuous treatment of multiple sclerosis with stem cells needed?

It is recommended to carry out lifelong treatment of multiple sclerosis with the help of cell therapy. Passing therapy once every six months or once a year helps to avoid exacerbation of the patient's condition.

  • What is the prognosis for the treatment of multiple sclerosis with cell therapy?

Treatment of multiple sclerosis with stem cells is aimed at reducing the number and intensity of exacerbations and compensation for impaired function. Stress effect on the immune system reboots the immune system, has an immunomodulatory effect on the immune system reducing autoimmune processes and damage to the central nervous system.
