Improving memory with stem cells

Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. The goal of treatment is to delay the progression of the disease and stabilize the patient's condition.

Improvement in Alzheimer's and other dementias

Alzheimer's disease occurs due to the accumulation of pathological protein between neurons. At the same time, communications between cells are broken, and the functioning of a brain worsens in due course. As a result, a person suffers from memory problems, loses social connections and the ability to perceive the environment normally. Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and encephalopathy partially overlap, so the treatment of these problems has common principles.
The goal of treatment is to slow the progression of the disease. The patient's condition can be stabilized, and his cognitive functions slightly improved. Relief of dementia is possible. It all depends on the stage of the disease.
GOOD CELLS offers multipotent stem cells derived from the neural crest for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Mesenchymal stem cells from adipose tissue or umbilical cord are usually prescribed if dementia or encephalopathy is based on inflammation or an autoimmune component. Depending on the mechanism of inflammation, MSCs can be used in combination with tumor necrosis factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. This is required to produce a special sensitization of cellular material to the pathological inflammatory process.

How will cell therapy help with Alzheimer's disease?

The main tasks of stem cells: form new connections between neurons instead of those that have been destroyed; slow down the processes of neuronal death; to form support cells that will improve the trophiс of the main neurons that provide the patient's cognitive abilities, memory, form the structure of his thinking.
It is possible to stabilize the patient's condition and suspend the development of the disease with the help of cell therapy.

The treatment process

  • 1. Consultation with a manager

Contact our managers with no obligations on your side. At this step, we gather your medical information and confirm the diagnosis. After that, we'll arrange a free online or offline consultation with a doctor.

  • 2. Consultation with a doctor

A personal consultation with a doctor is an excellent opportunity for you to find out all details of the program and get an individual prognosis. All the medical information you provide will be carefully reviewed so that you get the most effective treatment. The procedures take place in our clinical institutions in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The course of the treatment is developed individually and lasts for 3 days and above.

  • 3. Checkup

During the checkup, the doctor assesses your readiness for cell therapy. If the assessment is positive, biological materials are taken. Depending on your doctor's recommendations, you may be prescribed your own* or donor stem cells.

    * If you are prescribed the treatment with your own cells, you will have an ear punch biopsy performed under anesthesia in an operating room. The procedure lasts for 15 minutes. The punch depth is up to 4 mm, and the diameter is up to 3 mm.

  • 4. Preparation of the stem cell product

OWN CELLSAfter the biomaterials are collected, our team of biotechnologists will prepare a therapeutic dose of stem cells. In our laboratory, we will select stem cells from your sample, grow the required number of cells, test them, then create a stem cell product for your treatment. Usually, the production takes up to 21 days.
DONOR CELLSAccording to the doctor's prescription, the biotechnologist will select a ready-made and pre-tested sample of donor cells from our cryobank in the required quantity. In this case, cell injection can happen immediately after diagnosis and drug preparation.
    CULTIVATION WITH CYTOKINES
The doctor may also prescribe the injection of cells processed by tumor necrosis factor. In this case, the cells are processed 5-7 days before the patient's visit, so it is necessary to plan your visit accordingly. Otherwise, the duration of treatment may increase by another 5-7 days.

  • 5. Start of treatment

You will have a consultation with a doctor, ultrasound, additional examinations, and tests during the first visit to the clinic.

Based on the diagnostic results, your doctor will prescribe drug therapy with intravenous infusion and intramuscular injection.

  • 6. Injection of the cellular product, the regeneration phase

As part of treatment, the doctor may prescribe intravenous, endolumbar, or perilymphatic administration of the stem cells.

  • 7. Medical report and reducing of the basic treatment

You will be provided with a medical report that includes the diagnosis, the examination results (clinical, laboratory, and instrumental), the treatment process, and further recommendations. The doctor will examine you, prescribe the necessary treatment, or adjust the one prescribed to you.

  • 8. Keeping in touch

The first results of treatment can be seen in two weeks. But the key results appear after full regeneration. This usually occurs in 3-6 months after treatment.
During this period, the manager will talk to you and offer to fill out a questionnaire. The doctor will ask you about the success of the treatment, and you will be able to ask your questions.

You will have a personal manager throughout the program. The manager provides constant communication between you and the clinic. After the program ends, keep in touch with you to track the positive dynamics.

Scientific reasoning

More than 20 clinical trials have been registered on ClinicalTrials.gov to evaluate the safety and efficacy of various stem cell-based treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
The effectiveness of autologous adipose tissue stromal-vascular fraction introduction was shown in a 3-year phase 1 clinical trial. 31 patients with various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, were enrolled in the study.
In Alzheimer's disease, the cell product administration did not affect the MRI results, except for one patient whose hippocampal volume increased from <5th percentile to 48th percentile. Stabilization of the disease and improvement of cognitive abilities was observed in 8 out of 10 patients. Decreased levels of P-tau and ß-amyloid were noted in two patients.

FAQ

  • What are the causes of dementia?

Possible causes of dementia: Alzheimer's disease, vascular pathology, chronic and acute circulatory disorders, poisoning, including alcohol.

  • What are the symptoms of dementia?

The main symptoms of dementia: deterioration of short-term memory; difficulty finding the right words; mood swings; apathy; the difficulty of performing common tasks; confusion; problems with spatial orientation.

  • What is the difference between Alzheimer's disease and dementia?

Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia. Dementia is usually a decrease in thinking, reasoning and / or memorization. It is difficult for people with dementia to perform daily tasks that they have performed regularly and independently throughout their lives.

  • When should I see a doctor to diagnose dementia?

If you notice that a person is losing their mental capacity to an extent that interferes with daily activities and social interactions, please consult a doctor to determine if they are suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other dementia. The speed of referral to specialists affects the effectiveness of stem cell therapy.
